About Hard Probe

The faults that survive design review show up under the probe.

Hard Probe is a technical service for hardware, embedded and firmware — not a mere consultancy. The work happens on the bench, with an oscilloscope and a JTAG probe connected. When a board fails intermittently, when a fault won't reproduce, when a system needs to be attacked before someone else attacks it: that's where we start.

Founded by Francesco Not, Electronics Industry Technologist with 25 years across hardware design, firmware development and cybersecurity. Low-level debugging and hardware penetration testing are the core. Hands inside the system, finding what the others didn't find.

Diagnostics and root-cause analysis of complex HW/FW faults — intermittent, marginal, or hard to reproduce. For R&D, production and post-market, when the design says everything is fine but the board disagrees.

Security assessment on hardware and firmware: physical and logical penetration testing, reverse engineering, fault analysis. Hands-on, not a mere checklist, we find the attack surface before it finds you.

Technical support for EMI compliance (RED, FCC): pre-compliance debug and on-site assistance during testing. Launching in a later phase.

How I work

Competence is shown, not declared.
What that means in practice:

  • Bench-first. Measurements, captures, instrumented tests, evidence before opinion.
  • One point of contact. The person who quotes the job is the person on the probe.
  • No theoretical audits, no generalist consulting, no compliance-as-a-service.
  • Concrete deliverables: what fails, why, and how to fix it.
  • International, Italian and English. Documentation in the language you build in.
